The WolfInstitute this month is continuing its fall 2004 series of employment-related seminars aimed at in-house counsel and human resources professionals.
All courses, taught by attorneys and human resources professionals at WolfBlock, take place at the WolfInstitute Training Center, 1650 Arch Street, Philadelphia.
This month's schedule of seminars includes:
- Wednesday, October 6,HIPAA Privacy Security Regulations: The Next Compliance Hurdle, 9-11 a.m., with William D. Wright as speaker. This program is designed to bring attendees up to date with HIPAA privacy and security compliance rules.
- Thursday, October 7, Understanding the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act (WARN), 9-11 a.m., with Jennifer B. Feldman as speaker. This two-hour program is designed to educate human resource professionals and in-house counsel on how to best work within the confines of WARN.
- Tuesday, October 12, Mastering Voluntary and Involuntary Severance Plan Issues, 9-11:30 a.m., with Jonathan D. Wetchler as speaker. Attendees will learn how to achieve the maximum protections for their businesses and retain the full degree of permissible discretion when designing, drafting and implementing severance plans for involuntary terminations and reductions in force.
- Wednesday, October 13, Simplifying Affirmative Action Compliance, 9-11 a.m., with Jodi T. Plavner as speaker. This seminar provides an overview of the affirmative action process.
- Thursday, October 14, Employee Leaves of Absence Policies, 9-11:30 a.m., with Linda B. Hollinshead as speaker. This program will focus on key legal and practical considerations in developing leaves of absence policies that will both guide and educate employees on their rights and responsibilities.
- Tuesday, October 19, Protecting Student Education Records Under FERPA, 9-11:30 a.m., with Ms. Hollinshead as speaker. This seminar will review the components of a FERPA policy, explore the scope of FERPA's coverage and the limits on disclosure of student records, as well as consider the impact of the federal Patriot Act and the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act on an institution's FERPA obligations.
- Thursday, October 21, The "Ins and Outs" of USCIS, 9-11 a.m., with David J. Ceccanecchio as speaker. This seminar provides an overview of the process involved in hiring a foreign-born professional in a fast-paced and ever changing immigration environment.
- Tuesday, October 26, Employee Benefits Open Forum, 9 am-noon, with Melissa B. Kurtzman and Mr. Wright as speakers. Benefits attorneys will be available to answer questions and discuss new issues and topics of recent interest.
- Wednesday, October 27, Succession Planning: Skirting the Shoals, 9-11:30 a.m., with James R. Redeker as speaker. This seminar will show how to avoid succession planning pitfalls that could scuttle the entire plan.
- Thursday, October 28, EEO Update, 9 a.m.-noon, with Mr. Wetchler as speaker. This seminar is an update on current EEO issues and developments.
