Texas Bar Plans Appellate Practice Course

The State Bar of Texas this month will present its 20th Annual Advanced Civil Appellate Practice Course.

The program will take place on Thursday and Friday, September 7 and 8 at the Four Seasons Hotel, 98 San Jacinto Boulevard, Austin, TX. Sessions will run from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on day one and from 8:20 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. on day two.

Discussion topics will include: Supreme Court Trends; Legal Sufficiency/No Evidence Appeals in the Supreme Court; Hot Litigation Topics Including Breach of Fiduciary Duties and Restitution/Unjust Enrichment & Insurance; Standards of Appellate Conduct; Avoiding Appellate Malpractice; Winning Appeals for Summary Judgments, Evidence Challenges, and Mandamuses; Brief Writing (What Works and What Doesn't); Multi-District Litigation, and Use of Federal and Out-of-State Authorities.

Among the speakers will be the Hon. Terry Jennings, justice of the First Court of Appeals; the Hon. Nathan L. Hecht, chief justice of the Texas Supreme Court, and Scott P. Stolley, Thompson & Knight.
