Texas Bar Plans Advanced Tax Law Course

The State Bar of Texas this month will present its 24th Annual Advanced Tax Law Course.

The program will take place on Thursday and Friday, September 28 and 29 at the DoubleTree Hotel Dallas, 8250 North Central Expressway, Dallas. Sessions will run from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Thursday and from 8:55 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. on Friday.

Among the discussion topics are:

Section 351 Transactions and Related Issues;

Practical Implications of Section 704(c) for Negotiating Partnership Agreements: Implications of the 2004 Jobs Act;

Bankruptcy vs. Installment Agreements vs. Offer in Compromise;

Tax Reform and the New Tax Margin Tax 2006: An Overview;

Interplay Between Federal Income Tax Principles, the Old Franchise Tax and the New Margin Tax;

Divide, Reorganize and Conquer? Preliminary Thoughts on Margin Tax Planning.

The course director is William D. Elliott, a Dallas solo practitioner. Among the speakers are Emily A. Parker, Kevin Thomason and R. David Wheat, Thompson & Knight, and Kevin M. Richards, Ernst & Young.
