In 2005, billions of dollars in adverse judgments flowed from bungled electronic production; billions more were left on the table by counsel who didn't know how to find the digital smoking gun.New federal rules for discovery of electronically stored information go into effect this year. To help attorneys to be prepared, TexasBarCLE and the Litigation Section of the State Bar of Texas will co-sponsor the Electronic Discovery and Digital Evidence Institute and the 19th annual Advanced Evidence and Discovery Course this month in several locations.
The Electronic Discovery and Digital Evidence Institute 2006 will be presented live in Houston on April 28 at the Doubletree Houston Downtown, 400 Dallas Street.Video replays will be available on May 10 in Dallas, on May 24 in San Antonio and on June 28 in Austin.
The course director, Craig D. Ball of Craig D. Ball, P.C. will give opening remarks at 8:45 a.m.. Planned topics include: the essential e-discovery case, EDD cost control, building and training EDD review teams, records management and e-discovery after merger and acquisition, computer forensics for lawyers and emerging standards and best practices. The institute will adjourn at 5:15 p.m.
The Advanced Evidence and Discovery course will be given live in Houston at the Doubletree Downtown Houston on April 26-27, in Dallas at the Belo Mansion, 2101 Ross Avenue on May 11-12, and in San Antonio at the Joe C. Thompson Conference Center, 2405 Dedman Drive on May 25-26.
