Politics, Causes, and Clients: Impeach Justice Douglas! Ethics Rules for Lawyers and Judges is the title of a CLE seminar scheduled this month by Virginia CLE.
A live presentation will take place on Wednesday, October 5 from 9:10 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. at Waterford at Fair Oaks, 12025 Lee Jackson Memorial Highway, Fairfax, VA. This four-hour program addresses ethics rules governing both judges and lawyers, focusing on the type of issues highlighted by the career of Supreme Court Justice William O. Douglas, including: What limits should there be on judges' involvement in partisan politics or public causes What limits should there be on judges speaking about particular issues that might come before the court? What rules should apply to judges' acceptance of speaker fees or free trips?
Speakers at the live session will be James M. McCauley, Virginia State Bar, and Thomas E. Spahn, McGuireWoods.
