Seminar Will Review What NonprofitsShould Know About Employment Law

The Pro Bono Partnership this month is offering a seminar titled Employment Law for Nonprofits.

The program will take place on Tuesday, December 7 from 4 to 6:30 p.m. at Prudential Financial, 751 Broad Street, Newark, NJ.

This workshop covers the basics of employment law, including hiring and firing, employee vs. independent contractor, prudent personnel policies and employee handbooks, maintaining employee records, and anti-discrimination laws, as well as employee discipline and performance reviews.

The program will attempt to answers questions such as:

  • Are your organization's personnel policies up to date?
  • Do the new federal wage and hour laws affect the way you compensate your staff?
  • Do you have adequate policies covering leaves of absence, harassment and accommodating disabilities?
  • What other "hot topics" in employment law should nonprofit managers and trustees be aware of?

The presenters will be Jennifer Chandler Hauge, deputy director of the Pro Bono Partnership, and Stephen H. Kahn, Kahn Opton LLP.

There is no registration fee for the seminar.
