The Pennsylvania Bar Institute (PBI) this month is offering a CLE seminar titled Biotechnology in the Courts in three locations across the state.
Programs will take place on Tuesday, July 18 at the CLE Conference Center, Wanamaker Building, Juniper Street, Philadelphia; on Thursday, July 20 at the Koppers Building, 436 Seventh Avenue, Pittsburgh, and on Tuesday, July 25 at Penn State Great Valley, 30 East Swedesford Road, Malvern, PA.
The Supreme Court and the Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit dealt with numerous patent issues related to biotechnology in 2005. This course will review recent Supreme Court forays into the tangled world of what is patentable subject matter (the Labcorp case), when may a court deny permanent injunction against an infringer (the eBay case), and whether patent ownership presumptively establishes market power (the Illinois Tool Works case).
