Reception Honors Commercial DivisionOf New York State Supreme Court

A reception at the Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts on November 21 sponsored by the New York State Bar Association's Commercial and Federal Litigation Section marked the 10th anniversary of the Commercial Division of the state Supreme Court.

Chief Judge Judith S. Kaye and Louise M. Parent, general counsel of American Express, were the keynote speakers. Association President A. Vincent Buzard, who was a member of the Unified Court System task force that in 1995 recommended the creation of the Commercial Division, introduced the speakers. NYSBA President- Elect Mark H. Alcott, who was chair of the section when the Section initially proposed the formation of the Commercial Division was among the speakers.

"Our section is pleased to help celebrate 10 years of achievements by the Commercial Division which have fundamentally changed how commercial cases are litigated in New York," said Stephen P. Younger, the current section chair.

The program focused on the history of the Commercial Division and the contributions it has made to the practice of commercial law in New York State.

In the past decade, the work of the commercial courts has received acclaim from The Business Council of New York State and the American Bar Association.
