Program Will Examine IPLicensing From An Antitrust Perspective

Antitrust Aspects of IP Licensing Arrangements and Settlements is the title of a CLE seminar scheduled this month by the Greater New York Chapter of the Association of Corporate Counsel America and the firm of Dechert LLP.

The program will take place on Wednesday, May 10 from 9 am. to noon at The Rainbow Room, 30 Rockefeller Plaza, 64th Floor, New York City.

The intrusion of antitrust laws into the intellectual property field continues to generate significant legal developments that will be covered in this program. Topics will include the upsurge in class action litigation based on alleged abuse of intellectual property, the development of law of patent settlements, the obligations of patent owners participating in standards activity, and an overview of licensing practices.

Special attention will be given to recent decisions in the areas of package licensing ( Philips v. ITC ), tying and market power ( Illinois Tool Works v. Independent Ink ), patent settlements ( Tamoxifen, Terazosin ), and copyright and trademark misuse.

The panel of speakers will include George G. Gordon and Stephen A. Stack Jr., both of Dechert, and Marc Brotman, senior corporate counsel, Pfizer Inc.

No registration fee will be charged for the program. For information on available CLE credits, see the Bulletin Board on The Metropolitan Corporate Counsel website at www.metrocorpcounsel.com.
