The Pennsylvania Bar Institute (PBI) this month has scheduled another seminar as part of its ongoing Public Policy Series. This two-hour luncheon session is titled Adventures in Sarajevo: A Philadelphia Judge Goes International.
The program will take place on Thursday, July 20 from noon to 2 p.m. at the CLE Conference Center, Juniper Street, Philadelphia.
The program features Philadelphia Common Pleas Court Judge Carolyn Engel Temin, who has recently returned from serving as a judge on the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina in Sarajevo. She will outline her experiences and offer new insight into the courts of other countries and the similarities and differences when compared to the American system of justice.
Among other topics, Judge Temin will discuss:
The application of American legal standards in an international context;
The role of foreign judges in developing a court system;
The mission to ensure that Bosnia and Herzegovina is a peaceful state;
Relevant codes of criminal procedure;
War crimes trials;
The European Convention on Human Rights.
