The International Centre for Dispute Resolution this month is planning a one-day conference that will examine International Commercial Arbitration in Latin America.
The program is scheduled for Tuesday, November 15 from 9 a.m. to 5:15 p.m. at the offices of Arnold & Porter LLP, 555 12th Street, NW, Washington, DC.
Co-sponsoring the session are the International Dispute Resolution Committee of the DC Bar Association, the International Commercial Dispute Committee of the Association of the Bar of the City of New York, the Inter-American Commercial Arbitration Commission, the Inter-American Bar Association, and the Association of American Chambers of Commerce in Latin America.
The program is designed to provide legal practitioners and corporate counsel with the latest information regarding the use of international arbitration and mediation in Latin America. Over the past few years, there have been numerous developments in the dispute resolution field in Latin America: Argentina's investment cases, Brazil's new public-private partnership law, and Chile's new arbitration law.
Each session of the program will feature a panel discussion on a particular region and focus on specific issues to provide practitioners with information about current legislation, arbitration cases, potential problems and important practice tips aimed at increasing the level of predictability in the use of the alternative dispute resolution arbitral process.
The keynote speaker will be William K. Slate, president of the International Centre for Dispute Resolution and CEO of the American Arbitration Association. He will discuss Cultural Differences and Increasing Global Awareness of the Role of the Arbitral Institution.
