The New York State Bar Association's Corporate Counsel Section is about to go to press with the second edition of a brochure titled How Companies Can Prevent Legal Problems and Save Legal Expenses.
First published in 1998, the new edition of this 19-page brochure will reflect current issues, including the impact and implications of Sarbanes-Oxley, certification of financial statements, corporate governance, retention of e-mails and other records, and privacy laws affecting corporation customers and employees. While this brief brochure does not attempt to answer questions raised by these topics, it is designed to give company executives an idea of the range of concernsconfronting them, for which they need competent legal guidance.
The brochure's aim is to encourage companies to secure adequate legal advice and services in these areas, whether that takes the form of in-house counsel or retention of the services of a law firm. As was done with the first edition of this brochure, the aim will be to distribute it to companies throughout New York.
The present version of the brochure may be viewed at the Corporate Counsel Section's page at NYSBA's web site, (www.nysba.org), and will soon be replaced with the newversion.
