The New York State Bar Association (NYSBA) will hold its 2004 Annual Meeting from Monday, January 26 through Saturday, January 31 at the New York Marriott Marquis, 1535 Broadway, New York City.
More than 5,000 NYSBA members are expected to attend the program that will feature special seminars presented by NYSBA sections and committees as well as several special events.
On Wednesday, January 28, NYSBA President A. Thomas Levin will convene a special plenary Presidential Summit titled Let Freedom Ring: The Protections and Real-Life Impact of Anti-Terrorism Legislation - an Examination of the USA Patriot Acts I and II. Co-sponsored by the Civil Rights, Federal Constitution and Legislation committees and the Criminal Justice Section, this MCLE program will include a discussion of The First and Fourth Amendments: Implications for the Public and the Profession.

Tuesday, January 27, the Tax Section will present a series of programs between 9 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. The sessions are titled The Magic Circle - The Taxation of Partnership Options and Compensatory Partnership Interests; Recent Legislative and Regulatory Developments; Sarbanes-Oxley - What Tax Practitioners Need to Know; Rethinking New York's Tax Treatment of Corporate Partners, and Ethical Issues Arising in Everyday Transactional Practice.
Wednesday, January 28, the Business Law and Corporate Counsel sections will present a program titled Who Is in Charge? The Battle to Control Predatory Lending; State's Rights vs. Federal Pre-emption; the Emerging New Rules to Allow Increased Shareholder Participation in the Nomination and Election of Directors; 2003 Corporate Finance Update from 9 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.
Wednesday, January 28, the Commercial and Federal Litigation Section will present a session titled Litigating a Class Action Case - What Every Litigator Needs to Know from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
