The Greater New York Chapter of the Association of Corporate Counsel America (NY ACCA) and the firm of Fulbright & Jaworski L.L.P. this month are planning a CLE seminar titled Building an Effective Counterterrorism Compliance Component.
The program is scheduled for Tuesday, September 13 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Fulbright & Jaworski offices, 666 Fifth Avenue, New York City. Dinner will be served with the program.
With the mounting threat of global terrorism, financial institutions and other companies are facing greater pressure to effectively navigate myriad counterterrorism statutes, regulations and related provisions, which pose significant risks for the noncompliant, including negative publicity, fines, industry bars, class action lawsuits and even criminal prosecutions.
Recent developments indicate a trend toward stricter enforcement of such laws, which often leads to scrutiny of measures taken by companies to establish effective corporate compliance plans.
Serving as program moderator is Robert D. Owen, co-head of Fulbright & Jaworski's New York litigation practice. Speakers will be Kenneth M. Breen, a Fulbright partner and former prosecutor, and Jeffrey Breinholt, deputy chief of the Department of Justice's Counterterrorism Section.
There is no registration fee for the seminar.
