MICPEL Reschedules Trial Institute For June 5 Through 13



MICPEL has rescheduled The Maryland Trial Advocacy Institute, a nine-day skills training programs for lawyers, for early this month,


The institute, presented in cooperation with the Maryland State Bar Association, the University of Maryland School of Law, and the University of Baltimore School of Law, will take place from Saturday through Sunday, June 5 through 13 at the University of Baltimore Business Center in Baltimore.


The nine-day trial advocacy course employs team teaching and actual trial practice in both civil and criminal litigation as the principal methods of instruction in an intensive workshop format.


Videotapes of each participant's performances also will be made and critiqued.


Each day will be devoted to a single topic, including direct and cross-examination, demonstrative evidence, impeachment, expert witnesses, witness preparation and advanced direct and cross-examination, and openings and closings. The last two days will feature full trials.


The team leaders for the nine-day institute are Phillip G. Dantes, Wallace & Dantes, LLC; Steven P. Grossman, professor of law, University of Baltimore School of Law; the Hon. Dana M. Levitz, Circuit Court for Baltimore County; the Hon. Joseph F. Murphy Jr., chief judge, Court of Special Appeals of Maryland, and the Hon. Sandra A. O'Connor, state's attorney for Baltimore County.


Sessions will run from 8 a.m. to 5:15 p.m. on day one, 8 a.m. to 5:45 p.m. on days two and three, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on day four, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on day five, 8 a.m. to 5:45 p.m. on day six, 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on day seven and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on days eight and nine.
