Large Turnout For First Event In Executive Dinner And Mentoring Series

On November 13, OnPoint Events Group, Inc. introduced the first event in its Executive Dinner and Mentoring Series: Aspiring to Be General Counsel.

The event featured a panel discussion in which five general counsel - Charles W. Gerdts of Pricewaterhouse Coopers LLP, James Khan of Cornell Medical College, William B. Lytton of Tyco International, Inc., Michele C. Mayes of Pitney Bowes, Inc. and Lisa A. Whitney of Nautica Enterprises, Inc. - gave the benefit of their collective wisdom. Richard E. Mulroy, retired general counsel of The Mony Group, Inc, moderated the panel.

The speakers discussed the keys to their success and the qualities involved in succeeding as general counsel. The panelists detailed their careers at length, particularly where there was a transition to in-house from law firms or from governmental agencies. They also offered their viewpoints on the qualities they admire and expect from their staff when deciding on a promotion or a high-profile assignment.

The event concluded with questions from the audience. Cocktails and dinner followed the panel discussion, which took place at the Princeton Club of New York.

The event was sold out and attended mostly by senior vice presidents, associate general counsel and general counsel of Fortune 500 companies, from Morgan Stanley to Hudson River Bank & Trust.

The event was co-sponsored by the New York State Bar Association's Corporate Counsel Section and the Association of Corporate Counsel's Greater New York Chapter. It was generously sponsored by Kelley Drye & Warren LLP, Sidley Austin Brown & Wood LLP, Hughes Hubbard & Reed LLP, Morrison Cohen Singer & Weinstein, LLP, Epstein Becker & Green P.C., Thomson/West and Kroll Worldwide, Inc. To thank the panelists, OnPoint donated $3,000 to the charitable organizations of their choice. The support of these firms and service providers contributed significantly to the ability of OnPoint to make its charitable contribution from the proceeds of the event.
