LACBA Real Property Section Announces Program On Copyright Law In Design And Construction

Copyright Law in Design and Construction: The Evolution of the Doctrine of Implied License is the title of a CLE program planned by the Construction Law Committee of the Real Property Section of the Los Angeles County Bar Association (LACBA).

The program will be held from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 23 at LACBA/LexisNexis Conference Center, 281 S. Figueroa Street, Los Angeles. It will be preceded by registration and lunch from 11:45 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

The featured speaker, Mehrdad Farivar, Morris Polich & Purdy LLP, will examine recent court decisions adjudicating the rights of owners to use copyrighted architectural and engineering designs without the presence and involvement of the professionals who created the designs. He will discuss who owns the right to the use of design documents: the owner who paid for them or the design professional who authored them.
