King & Spalding Hosts Annual Health & Policy Law Forum

King & Spalding LLP hosted the 13th Annual Health Law & Policy Forum at the Four Seasons in Atlanta on Monday, March 20.

The forum featured a roster of industry experts who addressed pandemic influenza; ethics, law and the public's health; effective corporate compliance programs; healthcare antitrust in 2006; the media's perspective on healthcare; the future of Medicaid; hospital acquisitions of physician practices; the enforcement climate in healthcare; and managed care class action lawsuits.

Lawrence O. Gostin, one of the nation's foremost experts on public health policy and associate dean for research and academic programs at the Georgetown University Law Center, delivered the keynote address titled Pandemic Influenza: Ethics, Law and the Public's Health.

Other guest speakers at the forum included Dr. Rhonda Medows, the commissioner of the Georgia Department of Community Health; William Blumenthal, General Counsel to the Federal Trade Commission; Lawrence Pixley, a founding partner of a leading healthcare consulting firm, Stroudwater Associates, and John E. Steiner, the chief compliance officer and privacy official for The Cleveland Clinic Health System. Journalists from publications including The Wall Street Journal and Modern Healthcare also attended the forum to participate in a panel titled Covering Healthcare - The Players, The Issues and The Future.
