John Liftin Elected Chair Of Pro Bono Partnership



John M. Liftin, senior vice president and general counsel of Prudential Financial, Inc., in Newark, NJ, was elected chair of the board of Pro Bono Partnership upon the retirement of Chairman Robert E. Healing, corporate counsel of General Electric Company, Fairfield, CT.


The Pro Bono Partnership is a nonprofit organization that provides free legal services to other nonprofits serving the public interest in Westchester County, NY, Fairfield County, CT, and in New Jersey.


Prior to joining Prudential in April 1998, Liftin served as general counsel for Kidder, Peabody Group, Inc. and as president and chief operating officer of Quadrex Securities Corporation.He was also a partner in the law firm of Rogers & Wells. From 1971 to 1974, Mr. Liftin was associate director of the Division of Market Regulation at the Securities and Exchange Commission and Special Counsel to chairman William J. Casey. He is a member of the New York Stock Exchange Legal Advisory Committee and the immediate past Chair of the American Bar Association's Committee on Federal Regulation of Securities. He currently chairs the Association's Committee of Corporate General Counsel.


Mr. Healing, who founded the Partnership in 1997, with the help of Executive Director Rick Hobish, retired from General Electric in May after 33 years in the GE legal organization.
