How to Avoid Waiving Attorney/ Client Privilege in Civil Matters is the title of a CLE seminar scheduled for this month by the Greater New York Chapter of the Association of Corporate Counsel America (NY ACCA).
The program will take place on Tuesday, June 27 from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. at the offices of Ohrenstein & Brown, LLP, One Penn Plaza, New York City.
Lawyers routinely provide advice to their clients with the expectation that the substance of these communications will remain confidential. However, recent events have demonstrated that courts are finding ways to hold that the privilege has been waived under a variety of circumstances that the lawyer may not have anticipated. This program will examine some of the circumstances in which waiver is used and discuss methods to help protect the confidentiality of future attorney-client communications.
Speakers will be Christopher Hitchcock, Ohrenstein & Brown, and Mary Jennings Mahon, vice president and general counsel, Long Island Rail Road.
