Houston ACCA Chapter To Host Luncheon Program On Ethical Tips For Corporate Counsel



The Houston Chapter of the Association of Corporate Counsel will give a luncheon program on Tuesday, January 13 from 11:30 a.m. to 1p.m. at The Houston Club, 811 Rusk Street in Houston.The law firm of Haynes & Boone will sponsor the luncheon.

The presentation by Larry Finder and Debra Hatter of Haynes and Boone on Practical Ethical Tips for Corporate Counsel will focus on ethical issues in conducting internal investigations in dealing with Sarbanes-Oxley.John Eldridge, Haynes and Boone, will introduce the speakers.

Mr. Finder was the United States Attorney for the Southern District of Texas and is one of the most prominent white collar defense lawyers in Houston.He currently is involved in several high profile corporate criminal defense cases and internal investigations of various types - accounting, environmental, trading, etc.He will discuss ethical issues that confront in-house counsel as they perform or participate in internal investigations, such as Fifth Amendment concerns during employee interviews, waiver of privileges, and corporate cooperation with prosecutors under the latest DOJ guidelines.

Ms. Hatter is a corporate and securities lawyer who works extensively on Sarbanes-Oxley issues, including ethical concerns that confront in-house counsel - for example, whether, when and how a company lawyer should become a whistleblower; and the implications of forwarding less than accurate information to those who report under Sarbanes-Oxley.She will also discuss the latest Sarbanes developments and will include several examples of problems under the new rules.
