'HIPAA For Employment Lawyers'



The April 14, 2004 Health Insurance and Portability Act (HIPAA) privacy compliance deadline is creeping up.By then, most companies must maintain the confidentiality of employee medical information as required under HIPAA.

In a course called HIPAA for Employment Lawyers, the Pennsylvania Bar Association will teach what is required under HIPAA, what internal processes in smaller companies need to be reconfigured to reduce the risk of HIPAA violations, where the greatest risks lie when dealing with employees' medical information, and the penalties for noncompliance.

The course will be given on Thursday, January 29 in Philadelphia at the PBI/PBEC Education Center in the Wanamaker Building on Juniper Street; on Thursday, February 26 in Pittsburgh at the Conference Center at Mellon in the Union Trust Building, 501 Grant Street, and on Friday, February 27 in Mechanicsburg at the PBI Conference Center, 5080 Ritter Road. Registration begins at noon, the course follows from 12:30 to 3:45 p.m.
