Haywood Burns Memorial Lecture

The New York County Lawyers' Association held its tenth annual Haywood Burns Memorial Lecture and Reception honoring New York City's jurists of color on June 15. Mr. Burns was the first African American to head a law school in New York State (CUNY School of Law) and had a longstanding record in legal education and civil rights advocacy. The 2006 Lecturer, Professor Paula C. Johnson, second from left, of Syracuse University, spoke about the challenges to restoring peace and achieving justice in the aftermath of civil war, genocide and other human rights abuses in African societies. Pictured with Professor Johnson are, from left, Catherine A. Christian, the Association's president-elect; Hadaryah Morgan, co-chair, Minorities and the Law Committee, which sponsored the event, and Edwin David Robertson, the Association's president.
