Former Port Authority General Counsel Receives NY ACC-A Distinguished Service Award

The Greater New York Chapter of the Association of Corporate Counsel-America (NY ACC-A) last month honored Jeffrey S. Green, former general counsel of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey and former president of the New York ACC-A chapter, with the chapter's 2004 Distinguished Service Award.

The presentation took place at the NY ACC-A Sixteenth Annual Membership Reception, Annual Meeting, and The Distinguished Service Award on November 16 at The Plaza Hotel, New York City.

Mr. Green served as general counsel of the Port Authority from July 1991 to October 1 of this year. He joined the Port Authority as a computer programming trainee in 1965, transferred to the Law Department in 1969 upon graduation from New York University Law School and held progressively more responsible positions within the Law Department until his election as the Port Authority's fifth general counsel in 1991.

Over the course of his career, Mr. Green was involved in the major decision-making and financing activities of the Port Authority during periods of growth and development, as well as the adversity surrounding the attacks on the World Trade Center in 1993 and 2001. Mr. Green assured that the Port Authority's Law Department was fully operational within days of the September 11, 2001 destruction of the Port Authority's headquarters.

In addition to serving as NY ACC-A president, Mr. Green has served as Executive Board member and chairman of the Task Force on Disclosure, and chairman of the Committee on Governmental Debt and Fiscal Policy of the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada; as member and principal drafter of the report of the Commission on Public Finance (organized by Congressman Beryl Anthony) and represented state and federal government issuers in multi-disciplinary groups providing assistance to the Securities and Exchange Commission in the development of regulations.
