On Thursday and Friday, October 20 and 21, the State Bar of Texas will offer its annual Entertainment Law Institute.
It will run from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Thursday and from 8:15 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Friday at the Hyatt Regency Hotel, 208 Barton Springs Road in Austin.
Among the topics under discussion are ethics - professional liability insurance and malpractice issues for entertainment lawyers; 7 deadly sins of boiler plate; pitching music for film and television: agreements with reps and publishers; copyright terminations; website agreements for artists; film production agreements; right of publicity; and advertising, solicitation, and social media.
The faculty includes Lon Sobel, the 2011 Texas Star Award Recipient and editor of the Entertainment Law Reporter. Other speakers are Jeff Brabec, vice president of business affairs, BMG Chrysalis, and Stan Soocher, editor-in-chief of Entertainment Law & Finance and associate professor of Music & Entertainment Industry Studies, the University of Colorado, Denver.
