'Employment Challenges During Corporate Reshuffling'

Massachusetts CLE this month will present a seminar titled Employment Challenges During Corporate Reshuffling.

The program will take place on Thursday, September 23 from 9 a.m. to noon at the MCLE Conference Center, 10 Winter Place, Boston.

The seminar faculty will help participants understand the new Department of Labor regulations governing exempt and non-exempt employees; the "safe harbor" for employers; the White Collar Exemption Rule; how to navigate through these events and relationships in a way that will drastically change the ways companies do business; how to avoid paying taxes on independent contractors; how to avoid a class action lawsuit based on mischaracterization of a group of employees as exempt rather than non-exempt, and how to avoid joint employer liability for outsourced HR professionals.

The program chair is Lynn A. Kappelman, a partner in the Boston office of Seyfarth Shaw LLP. Other speakers will be Joseph W. Ambash, Seyfarth Shaw; Ellen C. Kearns, Epstein Becker & Green, PC; Tani E. Saperstein, Sapirstein & Sapirstein, PC, and Cynthia L. Westervelt, Staples, Inc.
