DRI's 2010 annual meeting - Navigating the Future - will be held in San Diego on Wednesday to Sunday, October 20 to 24, at the San Diego Marriott Hotel & Marina, 333 West Harbor Drive.
Meeting highlights include presentations by media celebrities. Marcus Luttrell, a former U.S. Navy SEAL and author of Lone Survivor, will lead off Thursday's presentations with his riveting account of survival in the mountains of Afghanistan. Matt Miller, author, columnist and public radio host, will speak at Thursday's awards luncheon, and on Friday, Soledad O'Brien will speak about the importance of mentoring to keep young people motivated and hopeful. On Saturday, Mara Liasson, national political correspondent with NPR, will update attendees on the current political climate and its impact on the legal profession.
Networking opportunities for the more than 1,000 attorneys and clients for evening entertainment begins with a Corporate Counsel reception, a First-Time Attendees and DRI New Member Reception and a Welcome Reception on Wednesday. On Thursday, networking includes the Diversity Reception and an off-site reception aboard the USS Midway Museum. Friday's networking includes a Women's Networking Luncheon and dine-arounds at San Diego's finest restaurants for dinner. On Saturday, the President's Gala will feature the first annual DRI silent auction to benefit the National Foundation of Judicial Excellence.
Course highlights include on Wednesday a corporate counsel program presentation, What Is the In-House Counsel's Client Willing to Pay For? with William S. Reimus, senior vice president and general counsel, TaylorMade-adidas Golf.
On Thursday, National Health Care Reform - What is It and What Does It Mean to You with Robert E. Moffit of the Heritage Foundation and others; Who Let the Data Out, a panel discussion moderated by Daniel B. Meyer of O'Hagan Spencer LLC; and Lessons Learned from the Legal Recssion will be discussed.
On Friday, Major Jon S. Jackson, U.S. Military, Office of the Chief Defense Counsel, will present Trail Advocacy Lessons from Guantanamo Bay, and Social Networking for Litigation and Business Development will be discussed by Joshua M. King, Avvo Inc. and James L. Pattillo, Norman Wood Kendrick & Turner.
On Saturday, Let the Voice of the Defense Bar Be Heard - a panel discussion about discovery issues and the defense bar's call for reform - will be moderated by Marc E. Williams, Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough LLP.
