Conference Will Examine RelationshipBetween The Law And The Media

The Ohio State Bar Association (OSBA) has scheduled its Law and Media Conference 2004 for Friday, October 15.

Workshops during the day will cover topics such as: Getting Ready to Report the News; Ask-the-Experts Briefing on Privacy/Libel; Who Took the Public Out of Public Records?; Covering the Courts: Ins and Outs; Free Press/Fair Trial; The Patriot Act and You; Public Access (HIPAA), and Golden Rules for Journalism.

A plenary session will examine how to ensure a free press and fair trial, especially in high-profile cases.

Among the day's speakers are Jeff Bruce, editor, Dayton Daily News ; Stan Sanders, vice president-news, NBC-4, Columbus; Timothy D. Smith, professor, Kent State University, and Gregory Lockhart, U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Ohio.

The conference will run from 10 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. at the OSBA offices, 1700 Lake Shore Drive, Columbus, OH.
