The Central and Western New York Chapter of the Association of Corporate Counsel America has scheduled a pair of seminars covering issues of importance to in-house counsel.
On Wednesday, February 15, the chapter is offering a session titled Indian Tribal Sovereignty from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., at 1100 Clinton Square, Rochester, NY at the offices of Nixon Peabody LLP.
The program will focus on a discussion of the issues implicated by the Commerce Clause of the U.S. Constitution, and the historic recognition of Indian tribes as "domestic dependent nations." The session will address the manner in which tribal sovereignty intersects with state zoning, taxation, and anti-gaming laws.
Speakers will be David Schraver and Michael Cohen, both of Nixon Peabody.
On Wednesday, March 15, the chapter will present Fair Labor Standards Act: Obligations, Prevention, and Litigation from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., also at 1100 Clinton Square, Rochester.
Fair Labor Standards Act litigation is on the rise, and compliance pitfalls are many. Paul Hall and Todd Sherman, both of Nixon Peabody LLP, will discuss the law's requirements, the means of attack being used by plaintiffs' attorneys, and strategies for defense and avoidance.
