Boston Bar Association To ReceiveABA Committee's Partnership Award

Highlighting the Boston Bar Association's (BBA) commitment to getting more young people of color to pursue careers in law, the American Bar Association (ABA) Standing Committee on Bar Activities and Services will award the BBA a 2006 Partnership Award for its panoply of 'pipeline' activities, many of which are done in conjunction with schools and community organizations throughout the city.

The BBA will receive its award at the annual meeting of the National Conference of Bar Presidents, National Association of Bar Executives and the National Conference of Bar Foundations on August 4.

The design of these activities is the result of an tandem effort between the BBA Diversity Committee, led by chair J.D. Smeallie of Holland & Knight, and the BBA Children and Youth Outreach Project, led by chair Catherine Reuben of Robinson & Cole LLP.

The pipeline activities of the BBA, funded by grants from the Boston Bar Foundation (BBF), offer numerous mentoring, tutoring, teaching and employment programs for young people that connect them with local attorneys, working toward increasing the diversity of Boston's legal community. Among these activities are the Law Day in the Schools program, an annual luncheon for summer associates of color, and the BBA Summer Jobs Program. These activities reach students of all ages, from public school to law school.
