Association Of Corporate Counsel Of Houston Plans August Symposium

The ACC Houston chapter has planned a day-long Back to School Symposium on Thursday, August 25, at the Hilton Post Oak, 2001 Post Oak Blvd. in Houston.

The program will run from 10:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. with breakfast and registration at 9:30 and a cocktail reception at 5:30 p.m.

A variety of topics will be covered. Vinson & Elkins will sponsor a Supreme Court Survey, with V&E lawyers John Elwood and Gwen Samora offering an update on important decisions in the U.S. and Texas during the past year. That will be followed by lawyers from Andrews Kurth LLP discussing the Dodd-Frank Act and its impact on public companies: they will provide an overview of the impact of the act on public companies other than financial institutions and focus on executive compensation, governance issues and the status of recent rulemaking.

The luncheon presentation, sponsored by Collier Legal Search, will feature Mark S. Sobus, Strategic Solutions, who will describe the way jurors see the world and examine strategies to position your company and case optimally for jurors. Winston & Strawn LLP will sponsor a discussion about intellectual property, and Beck Redden Secrest LLP will cover litigation concerns for in-house counsel. LexisNexis will sponsor a discussion about ways to identify risk and communicate it to company executives, and Blake Cassels & Graydon LLP will offer International Business and Arbitration, discussing whether and when to arbitrate, the relative merits of arbitrationand litigation, and considerations that should be addressed both at the time of contracting and when disputes arise.
