Advice On Selecting A Jury

Selecting and Influencing Your Jury is the title of a CLE seminar planned for this month in three locations by the Ohio State Bar Association (OSBA).

Programs will take place on Tuesday, September 19 at the Forum Conference Center, East 9th and St. Clair streets, Cleveland; on Wednesday, September 20 at the OSBA offices, 1700 Lake Shore Drive, Columbus, OH, and on Thursday, September 21 at the Receptions Conference Center, 5975 Boymel Drive, Cincinnati. Sessions run from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., with registration starting at 8 a.m.

The featured speaker is Dr. Susan Jones, chief executive officer and founder of the Jury Research Institute.

Dr. Jones punctuates her presentation with pretrial research videotapes of mock jury deliberations across the country. These videotapes and her thoughtful analysis offer a powerful view of how jurors' pretrial attitudes and beliefs influence their perception of evidence during the trial and deliberations.

Among the topics to be addressed are: Using a Two-Track Rating System to Simplify Jury Selection; How Juries Really Decide; Strategic Use of Exhibits and Demonstrative Evidence, and Fifty Ways to Leave an Impression Through Opening Statement and Closing Argument.
